This workshop guides graduate students in crafting effective impact statements that clearly communicate the significance of their research. Participants will learn the key components of a strong statement, including problem or need, contribution, benefits, and broader impacts—and how to tailor their writing for multiple audiences, such as funders, institutions, and the public. We will examine examples, discuss common pitfalls, and practice drafting mini impact statements that highlight both scholarly and real-world relevance. By the end of the session, students will have strategies for articulating why their work matters and how it creates meaningful change.
